A Cycling Happening for the Entire Family during the Hanukkah Holiday
The Tamar Regional Council and Production Forum company, are proud to present a new and unique cycling event. A grassroots cycling trip around the southern Dead Sea basin and the winding canyons of Nahal Sodom and Nahal Pratzim. The event addresses all riding-levels, from families with children in trailers, to weekend riders, right up to experienced cyclists who will enjoy a 60-kms overland trail combined with limestone ramparts.
For the first time, participants will cycle the limestone ramparts that cross and enter the Dead Sea – along the border ramparts of the Dead Sea Works, surrounding the southern part of the Dead Sea. Only once a year security permits can be obtained to ride the ramparts, and the cyclists are able to see the breathtaking views that have, until now, been preserved only for Dead Sea factory workers or members of the security forces.
The ramparts serve as the boundary area between the Israeli Dead Sea and the Jordanian Dead Sea areas. They act as a fenceless border between the countries, where a common and peaceful daily routine is maintained between the two sides. The track is mostly on a pressed, flat, limestone area. Alongside the rampart ride, the experienced long-trail cyclists will enjoy off-road riding on the “Around Sodom” and Amiaz Plain routes.
All the cycling trails start and finish at the events complex located next to the Solarium Beach on Ein Bokek’s new promenade. At the end of the ride, participants can enjoy the Expo Fair, with the best sports and lifestyle brands, family activities, and low-cost corners with cold beer and shakes. The event producers provide a bicycle rental service + helmet and trailers for riders who lack suitable equipment.
The journey takes place on Friday, at lighting of the first candle of the Hanukkah Holiday. A great opportunity to go down to the Dead Sea with the whole family, and enjoy a unique, natural sporting experience and experiential activities for all ages. In a one-time, special event, we will allow family camping on the Dead Sea Promenade beach, which includes a shower and toilet infrastructure.
Alongside the camp-ground, a festive Hanukkah Happening will be held, climaxed by the lighting of the first Hanukkah candle, and the first candle of the cycling trip.
